Marina Oprea is an artist and writer living and working in Bucharest. She graduated the National University of Fine Arts in Bucharest, with a background in photography and video art. She is also part of the artist group nucleu 0000.
For her, visual art becomes a means of demonstrating how life extends beyond its own subjective limits and talks about the effects of society on the average individual. It challenges the duality that is continually reconstructed between Self and Other. Her work investigates identity and choice, working with very specific objects and tools. By creating situations and breaking the passivity of the spectator, she wants the viewer to immerse himself in the piece along with the artist. using sound, photography, performance, video, and ready-made objects, she documents and questions personal and social issues. Her works are based on uneventful situations: personal grievances and disputes that are in fact deeply rooted in current social circumstances, combined with subtle details of odd or eccentric, humoristic elements.
Since 2016, Marina Oprea has extend her interest into the area of critical writing. she is keen to point out the instances where pop culture meets contemporary art, her texts often indicating towards performativity as the intersection between the two. Nn between projects she makes translations and collaborates with various national and international artistic publications.
Starting with 2020, Marina Oprea is the editor-in-chief for Revista ARTA and since 2021 she is running TLTXT.
